"Teach me your ways, O LORD; make them known to me. Teach me to live according to your truth, for you are my God, who saves me. I always trust in you." (Psalm 25:4-5)
The three-hour walk round the Aberdeen Reservoir and part of Hong Kong Island Trail this morning was indeed a relaxing and enjoyable journey, getting me and Johnson away from our busy and tense life, being renewed both in body and in spirit.
As I started to walk along the Aberdeen Nature Trail (Chinese name: 香港仔自然教育徑), I looked at the way ahead, it was very nicely paved, with different species of plants by its two sides. The words "教育" suddenly flipped through my mind and I began to sing the following song in my heart:
主,求教導我走道路,施恩典幫助我走道路,教我不偏左右;隨聖光行走,憑信少依眼目,走道路。
God has already paved the way for us. He teaches us to go along His way.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me." (John 14:6) As we put our faith in Jesus and follow Him closely, we will be with God our Father. As we embark on this journey to walk in God's way, we will become closer and closer to God.
God has never promised a smooth way for our life. As we walked along the trail, there were parts which were narrow, slippery, stony, which we were susceptible to tripping, spraining our ankle or even falling down the slope. Yet it was particularly in these parts that we looked most closely at the way (道) and be very cautious in each step that we took. This reminds me of how trials in our life have indeed been times which bring us closest to God, how we most eagerly pray for His words (道), study His words (道) and obediently carry out His words (道) with faith.
"My brothers, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure." (James 1:2-3)
In face of the heaps of work each day, I thank God in nurturing my faith in Him and my endurance. I know it is never an easy way to go along in working as a teacher, yet I thank God in carrying me along the way, allowing me to continue to spread the Good News and nurture my students despite the heavy work load.
In face of Johnson's waiting for his new way and venture ahead, I thank God for giving Johnson the faith and endurance in waiting for His direction for the way ahead.
In the last part of our walk this morning, we walked past the cemetery in Aberdeen. In seeing all those graves, I thought to myself: one day I will be like them all, leaving my life journey on this earth. Yet I am full of hope, for I know that the way of God does not only lead me to this end, but to living in eternity with Him in His kingdom. This once again reminds me of how I should live my life - To walk in the way of the LORD and to live a meaningful and abundant life!
LORD, please teach me to walk along your way and let me live a life that is pleasing to you. Teach me your way, long as my life shall last, until the race is run, until the journey's done. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Alice :)
